Portrait probable d'un enfant inconnu de Catherine Splingaerd

La photo probable de Suzanne Splingaerd, la jeune fille perdue de Catherine.

La cousine Anne Splingaerd a fait circuler une photographie dans la famille en demandant l’opinion de chacun. Elle l’a retrouvée dans l’ouvrage de Vladimir A. Obruchev qui avait fait une visite dans la famille du temps de Suzhou.

Si le R. P. Rutten nous dit que la fille de Catherine, Suzanne est née en 1878 et qu’elle est décédée du choléra à Shanghai quelques mois après l’arrivée des enfants en 1895 alors que Catherine était déjà partie, elle avait donc dix-sept ans.

La jeune fille que Obruchev a photographiée comme étant une des filles Splingaerd semble bien être une jeune fille de 14-15 ans et ce n’est pas une des filles que nous connaissons. Or le savant a rendu visite aux Splingaerd à Suzhou en 1893 et Suzanne avait précisément 14-15 ans. On est bien obligé de constater que tous ces éléments coïncident.

C’est la raison pour laquelle je serais favorable à dire que je crois que cette photographie représente bien la fille perdue de Paul Splingaerd et de Catherine.

Photo of Suzanne Splingaerd likely, the girl lost Catherine

Cousin Anne Splingaerd circulated a photograph in the family by asking everyone's opinion. She has found in the work of Vladimir A. Obruchev who had visited the family in time of Suzhou.
If R. P. Rutten tells us that Catherine's daughter, Suzanne was born in 1878 and she died of cholera in Shanghai a few months after the arrival of children in 1895 when Catherine was already gone, so she had seventeen years.
The girl was photographed Obruchev as a girls Splingaerd seems to be a girl of 14-15 years and this is not one of the girls we know. But the scientist has visited Splingaerd in Suzhou in 1893 and Suzanne had just 14-15 years. We are obliged to note that all these elements coincide.
This is why I would support that I think this photograph shows well the lost daughter of Paul and Catherine Splingaerd.
