Voici l'annonce laconique du décès du fils aîné du mandarin Paul Splingaerd. L'église St Louis se trouvant à Tientsin, et Alphonse y résidant, il ne fait aucun doute qu'il n'a pas été inhumé au cimetière de Chala à Pékin comme son frère Remy.

Il est donc décédé au petit matin du sept septembre 1943, pendant cette période douloureuse de l'occupation japonaise. Il fut inhumé au Race Course Road International Cemetery. Il était veuf de sa première femme depuis 1934.

Here's the terse announcement of the death of the eldest son of Mandarin Paul Splingaerd . The Church of St. Louis located at Tientsin, and Alphonse resident there, there is no doubt that he was not buried in the cemetery Chala in Beijing as his brother Remy.

He is deceased on the morning of September 7, 1943, during this painful period of Japanese occupation. He was buried in the International Race Course Road Cemetery. He was predeceased by his first wife since 1934.

En 1954 se passa un évènement que nous ne connaissons pas qui justifia la translation des corps vers un autre cimetière et l'établissement d'un nouveau monument funéraire plus important. Philomène Splingaerd-Cox et Angela Cox assistérent à cette translation. Angela avait 11 ans.
