Quatre filles du mandarin Paul Splingaerd deviennent religieuses dans la congrégation française des Dames Auxiliatrices des Ames du Purgatoire et sont enseignantes sur le complexe de Sen-Mou-Yeu à Zikawei (Xujiahui - Shanghai). L’aînée, Marie (1874-1933), en religion Mère Saint Jérôme, meurt à Shanghai ; la première des jumelles, Clara (1875-1951), en religion Mère Sainte Rosa, décède à San Francisco, Californie ; la seconde jumelle, Rosa (1875-1968), en religion Mère Sainte Clara décède à Epinay-sur-Seine – Essonne – France ; la quatrième, la plus jeune, Anna Splingaerd (1881-1971), en religion Mère Sainte Dosithée, meurt également dans l’Essonne. Ces deux dernières avaient été expulsées de Chine en 1951. |
Four daughters of Mandarin Paul Splingaerd become religious in the french congregation Dames Auxiliatrices des Ames du Purgatoire and are teachers on the complex of Sen-Mou-Yeu to Zikawei (Xujiahui - Shanghai). The eldest, Mary (1874-1933), in religion Mother St. Jerome, died in Shanghai; the first of the twins, Clara (1875-1951), in religion Mother St. Rosa, died in San Francisco, California; the second twin Rosa (1875-1968), in religion Mother St. Clara dies in Epinay-sur-Seine - Essonne - France; fourth, youngest, Anna Splingaerd (1881-1971), in religion Mother St. Dositheus, also died in the Essonne. These last two had been expelled from China in 1951. |

Rosa Splingaerd , one of the twins. She was born from Paul Splingaerd and Catherine Li in the 'Blue City', Guihuachang, the capital of Inner Mongolia 25 October 1875 and was named Rosa Maria Catharina 31 by Father H. Rutjes. She enters as a postulant at December 28, 1897 Jesey, then his Novitiate March 25, 1898. She spent two years in Paris before returning to Shanghai and took her first vows March 25, 1900 and the Great Vows May 16, 1910 in Sen-Mou-Yeu. Between 1902 and 1951, she was in Sen-Mou-Yeu or the Holy Family in the International Settlement, or St. Joseph in the French Concession. She worked with children for cathéchèse, as a teacher of drawing in schools and various tasks in the home. In 1951, she was expelled from China with her sister Anne, and after one year in Rennes (France) in 1951, she is in Epinay-sous-Senart in the department of Essonne, where she died February 23, 1968 at the age of 83 years. His name in religion was Mother Mary of St. Clara. |

Rosa Splingaerd, une des jumelles. Entre 1902 et 1951, elle était à Sen-Mou-Yeu ou la Sainte Famille, dans la concession internationale, ou à St-Joseph, dans la concession française. Elle travailla avec les enfants pour la cathéchèse, comme maïtresse de dessin dans les écoles et divers tâches dans la maison. En 1951, elle est expulsée de Chine avec sa soeur Anne et après une année à Rennes (France), en 1951, elle est à Epinay-sous-Sénart, dans le département de l'Essone, où elle est décédée le 23 février 1968 à l'âge de 83 ans. Son nom en religion était Mère Marie de Ste-Clara. |

Clara Splingaerd - San Francisco (Cal) Clara Splingaerd, l'autre jumelle est née de Paul Splingaerd et de Catherine Li dans la 'Ville Bleue', Guihuachang, la capitale de la Mongolie intérieure le 25 octobre 1875 et fut baptisée par Mgr Rutjes Clara Appolonia Maria. Après avoir aspiré à entrer au Carmel, elle rejoint ses soeurs chez les Auxiliatrices. Entrée comme postulante à Jersey le 6 avril 1899, elle entre rapidement en Noviciat le 11 juillet 1899 puis passe un an à Paris. Revenue à Shanghai, elle prononce ses Premiers Voeux le 4 août 1901 et ses Grands Voeux le 19 mars 1912 à Sen-Mou-Yeu. Entre 1903 et 1914, elle vivait en communauté à la Sainte Famille à Sen-Mou-Yeu et à St-Joseph, comme sacristine, supervision de l'orphelinat et maîtresse de classe ou de crêche.

Having aspired to enter Carmel, she joined her sisters in Auxiliatrices. Anne Splingaerd was born in the 'Blue city' (Guihuacheng) at the time his father was still tradesman the seventh year of Guangxu, the eighth day of the eighth month, 1881 and was baptized on the sixteenth day by EH Van Koot. Like her sisters, Anna entered the congregation Auxiliatrices as a postulant and January 15, 1905 at Sen-Mou-Yeu, at the time her father was in Belgium. She entered the Novitiate in April 26, 1905, and pronounced her first vows May 19, 1907, after his father died. The Great Vows February 2, 1917 at Sen-Mou-Yeu while her sister Clara was already in the USA. Between 1907 and 1951, she lived in community at St. Joseph, Holy Family and Sacred Heart. She was good at things artistic and music. She was music teacher and also the work of embroidery. In 1951, she is expelled China with her sister Clara and passes through Hong Kong and then, after one year in Rennes (France), arrives in Epinay-sous-Senart where she died the 15 January 1971 at the age of ninety years. In religion, her name was Mother Mary of St. Dositheus. |
